What the Hell Google Redirect Virus Is?

Some people use to set a specific webpage and their browser’s homepage (other than google.com). But after some weeks or more, the homepage automatically changes to Google.com. Why, because of google redirect virus. Whenever you observe any such change in your browser it means a virus has managed to be your unwanted guest. You must always be aware of web browser hijacking and its solutions.

The question arises, why what benefit would a virus redirect you to google.com. The answer is simple, Money! Virus launcher will get some revenue, every time you open (or forced to open) google.com via that redirecting.

You may have seen some websites offering Google custom search. Why? Because referring someone to google can give them some tiny amount, which keep on increasing with the increase in traffic to google.com. That’s the reason same with such virus developers.

That’s not only with google, such kind of viruses can do the same job for other URLs (redirecting you to them) if they see any benefit in this. Some people also claim that some particular types of google redirect viruses can leak out your personal data as well. Let’s see how to get rid of google redirecting virus!

How to Kick Google Redirect Virus Out?

There are multiple ways and methods that you can use to make your browser safe and secure. I’m going to discuss some of the most efficient and easy means to get your job done. Remember, you do not need any browser virus removal tool. Simply follow the given 4 ways Fix Google Redirect Virus from your web-browser.

Method 1: Scan your PC

The first and foremost thing that you should do in any security vulnerability situation is to scan your computer with some good antivirus software. For windows 8 and later, I recommend to use windows own “windows defender” to Full Scan your PC. Scanning results will collect all of the unwanted software and show you a scan results. Always choose to “permanently remove unwanted software” showed up in scan results.

The windows defender and other antivirus programs also provide a facility named as “real time protection”. You’re given with chance to manually turn it off or on. Well, if you want to secure yourself then always keep this Real Time Protection ON. A virus program won’t find it easy to infiltrate into your system when you’ve an active real time protection.

Though some viruses, including most of those responsible for redirecting to Google, somehow make it to get hide in your PC. Even scanning could not spot them on. Following methods are for especially “extra intelligent” virus programs.

Method 2: Remove your Web Browser’s Add-ons and Extensions

Sometimes different kinds of extensions and add-ons automatically get installed in your web browser. Go to Settings > Extensions in your browser and locate all of the unfamiliar extensions that you haven’t installed. Disable and remove them and restart your browser.

But this does not mean you don’t have to install any extensions at all. Actually, there are some must-have extensions for your web browser. Only uninstall those that sounds fishy or if you don’t remember installing them.

So, at this step, I suppose you already have scanned your PC and removed unwanted extensions. Now, if the virus program has set another homepage then you should change it manually. For google chrome, go to your browser’s settings.

There, you’ll see options like “On startup” and Appearance etc. Manually select your homepage from these two options and restart your browser. If you’re using Internet Explorer then type http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk in search space for homepage.

Method 3: Set Default Browser

If you’ve multiple web browsers then you need to choose one as your default web browser which you prefer over others. Choosing a default browser means this browser will be used to open web applications by your system.

Though, it’s up to your choice but I recommend Google chrome to set as your default web browser due to its security invulnerability.

After selecting a default browser, go to its settings, clear Cache, Cookies and delete web history in your browser and restart it. It should behave normally from now on.

Method 4: Repair your windows host file

Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts and delete the entire history. But DON’T EVER FORGET TO SAVE THEM IN A TEXT FILE AS A BACKUP BEFORE DELETING. Then you need to set proxy settings for your web browsers.

  • If you’re using Internet Explorer then launch Internet Explorer, go to Tools option > Internet Options. After that click on the Connections tab, then tap Local Area Network (LAN) Settings, unselect everything and hit OK.
  • For Google Chrome, select Under the Hood icon > Network > Change proxy settings. Now click the LAN settings button then select Local Area Network (LAN) Settings. Uncheck Use Proxy server for your LAN and hit Ok.
  • For Firefox browser, go to Tools > Options > Advanced > Network tab > Settings. Then select No proxy and hit Ok All done!

So, this was the introduction and solution for URL redirecting virus. Especially the Google redirect virus is discussed in detail in order to make a common web user capable of tackling such kind of redirecting viruses. Hope you’d have enjoyed this guide.
